1/72 Scale Aircraft
My Fleet
used
for Blue Max wargame.
This is My
Fleet of models built for Blue
Max gaming pieces. Each model has a short dowel
petruding
from under the fuselage for mounting on game base. The paint
schemes
of most of the models are based on actual historical aircraft. (See
Blue Max info
at bottom
of page)
The two tables below list the models I have
completed
(AIRWORTHY) and the ones that are in work (IN
PRODUCTION). Some kits are what is called
"limited
production". For one thing they cost more and they may not be as
good quality; requiring a lot of patience. The "vacu-form" kits
were
made from thin sheet of plastic formed over molds and maybe a few metal
parts for wheels, engine, and guns. Thus, the wings will have
correct
length and chord but will not have a camber thickness. This list
will give an idea of the kits and subjects that are available to the
modeler
if he searches around for them.
See
bottom of page for explanation of abbreviations.

INTRO TO BLUE MAX
These models were built as gaming pieces
for Blue
Max wargame, which extrapolates the old Blue
Max board game into a 3-D modeling experience. Each model
is mounted onto a playing stand that consists of a heavy base with a
5-section
antenna. The tip of the antenna has an aligator clip that
attaches
to a short dowel petruding from under the fuselage of the model.
The antenna is used to represent the 5 altitudes in the game and can
swivel
to simulate aircraft climbing, diving or spinning. Blue
Max is played on a matt with 5-inch hex that allow for
orientation
and movement in 6 different directions.
The players divide into sides and
each
player flies one aircraft using a chart of movements and
damage.
The next move is recorded on the chart, to keep players honest, and all
players make simultaneous movement. Next comes Combat phase where
all shots are taken and then the Damage phase where all hits are
resolved
to see whose crate is still flying. Each aircraft has a different
chart with different movements and damage allocation. There
is alot of built-in random surprises that keep the game interesting:
jammed
guns, stalls, engine fire and anti-aircraft. The game works
better
with at least 4 players; 6 or more is best.
I've added some 3-D clouds to the
game's
rules that allow hidden movement and evasion for the injured. I
am
in process of modeling a Drachen observation balloon to
provide
a juicy, but lethal, target for the aces to try their luck.
Cool, huh? If you are
interested,
you should check out the Blue
Max link.
1/72
Scale
= 1 inch represents 72
inches <or> 1 inch on model equals
6 feet on real A/C.

trained.
